This project encompasses the design, 3D modeling, 3D printing, programming and assembly of an alarm clock. The motto of the project was to think about alternative ways of displaying time and how they affect the way people experience time.
The prototype is composed of an arduino microcontroller, a LED RGB panel. and a RTC module; the case was 3D printed to scale.
There are 4 alternative methods to display time:
– arabic numbering (24h), both hours and minutes are displayed with numbers;
– numbers for the hours and one pixel for each minute arranged in a column of 10 minutes each (total of 6 columns);
– bars with variable width (thin = 1h, medium = 2h, thick = 6h) and numbers for minutes;
– binary (with hours, minutes and seconds).
